Securing a safe space for public dialog

At WeVote, we understand the importance of ensuring that only real people are able to create accounts on our platform. This is especially important when it comes to discussions about public policy, as we want to make sure that the conversations happening on our platform are genuine and representative of the views of the community. That’s why we’ve implemented a robust verification process to validate users as real voters.

Our verification process consists of two levels of security. First, we use secure two-factor verification via phone messaging. This helps to ensure that only real people are able to create accounts, as it requires users to provide both a phone number and a code sent via SMS.

In addition, we use a third level of verification using postcards in the mail. This helps to further ensure the authenticity of our users, as it requires them to be able to receive a postcard in their mail and verify their identity using a unique code written on the verification card.

By using these multiple layers of verification, we’re able to effectively prevent fraudulent accounts and ensure that our users are genuine. This helps to create a safer and more trustworthy space for discussions about public policy.

It’s worth noting that other social networks, such as Facebook, Reddit, and Twitter, have struggled with the proliferation of bots and fake accounts. In fact, Facebook has deleted billions of fraudulent accounts in recent years (Bots and Misinformation, 2019). By contrast, WeVote’s unique architecture and network configuration allows us to effectively prevent the creation of fake accounts and ensure that our users are genuine.

At the same time, we understand that people want to be able to speak freely without fear of ridicule or harassment from anonymous trolls on the internet. That’s why we’ve designed our platform to be private and secure, allowing users to have open and honest conversations without worrying about their privacy. This can lead to a higher quality of dialogue and ultimately a better world.

Overall, WeVote is committed to creating a safe and trustworthy space for discussions about public policy. By using multiple layers of verification and implementing a secure and private platform, we’re able to ensure that the conversations happening on our platform are genuine and respectful, leading to a more informed and harmonious society.
